Executive Director and Registrar
Abena brings a strong record of success to lead the OFA, gained from her work in a variety of regulatory, not-for-profit, and private sector organizations. Abena is the former Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the College of Denturists of Ontario, one of 26 self-regulating healthcare professions in Ontario. In addition to extensive work in the legal education field, she has served as a public appointee for two regulated health professions and as a Governor on the Board of Governors for Centennial College where she chaired the College’s first Learning and Engagement Committee. Abena has also just been appointed to the Heritage Toronto Board for a two-year term. Abena holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and Political Science from Lakehead University and a law degree from the University of Windsor. She was called to the bar in British Columbia in 1986.
As of October 1, 2015, Abena is providing the executive leadership to establish the OFA's presence as a regulatory organization and building strong stakeholder relationships to enhance consumer protection and foster constructive dialogues.
The Executive Director is also an Officer of the OFA.
Director, Finance and Operations
Myuran Palasandiran, CPA, CA
Myuran joined the OFA from the Emergency Health Services (EHS) Unit, Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care where he managed the operational, business and financial management functions for EMS including municipal grant and transfer payment processes, budget coordination and monitoring of over 50 municipalities; financial policy and process development; financial analysis; and accounts processing. He has also worked with Service Ontario in the role of manager, accounting and controllership, as well as with the Office of the Auditor General of Ontario as a senior auditor.
Manager and Chair, Ontario Film Review Board
Karynn joined the OFA from White Pine Pictures where she was the Vice President, Scripted Development. Karynn has over 25 years of experience in the film/entertainment industry. Her vast experience covers the full spectrum of content creation, acquisition, marketing, distribution, financing and programming (both feature and documentary films). She started out in production, working in both film and television. She has held progressively senior management positions with TVA Films, Equinoxe Films, Telefilm Canada and Astral Television Network. Karynn was also a jury member on the Ontario Media Development Corporation’s feature film development fund. She holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Arts from York University.
